Common Dental Emergencies We Treat in Los Angeles
The guidance below is intended to help in the first few minutes before you reach our office. It does not replace an evaluation, and we recommend calling us for any of the situations described here.
Severe toothache
Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently around the area to clear anything trapped underneath. Skip the aspirin directly on your gum, it will not help and can burn the tissue.
Knocked out tooth
Time matters here more than anywhere else. Pick the tooth up by the crown, never the root, and try to place it back in the socket. If that is not possible, keep it in milk or your own saliva and get to us within the hour.
Chipped or broken tooth
Save any pieces you can find and rinse your mouth with warm water. A cold compress on the outside of your cheek helps with swelling until we see you.
Lost filling or crown
Keep the piece if you have it and avoid chewing on that side. A small dab of dental cement from the pharmacy can protect the area temporarily.
Broken or dislodged veneer or bonding
Save the piece if it came off in one part and avoid extreme hot or cold on that tooth. Most of the time we can rebond it or rebuild it, matched to the shade around it.
Facial swelling or a spreading infection
This one moves fast. Call us immediately, and if breathing or swallowing becomes difficult, go to an emergency room first.
Bleeding that will not stop
Apply firm, steady pressure with clean gauze and call us right away.

WHY LA DENTAL CLINIC?
Why Los Angeles Patients Choose Us for Emergency Dental Care
Prioritized Scheduling
Every emergency call is evaluated as soon as it is received. Our team identifies the earliest available opening based on the urgency of your condition, and emergency messages are shared with the dentist directly rather than held for the next business day.
One Experienced Team, Start to Finish
Dr. Arezoo and Dr. Azy Nasiry are UCLA faculty members in cosmetic dentistry and biomimetics. An emergency repair receives the same level of clinical attention and detail as a scheduled procedure.
A Conservative, Biomimetic Approach
Our biomimetic philosophy means we treat the problem without removing more of your natural tooth structure than necessary, including under emergency circumstances.

"Absolutely wonderful! I hadn't been to the dentist in a few years, and everyone made sure I got the treatment I needed without being judgemental or condescending about it. The hygienist is kind and talkative, and everyone was very cognizant of my needs and made sure I wasn't in pain. Dr. Nasiry is great, and I completely trust her with my teeth and their future care! (They are also very upfront and honest about pricing, which is very appreciated.)"

"Was in the Los Angeles area for business, and my veneer came off. Not only did they answer my call at 3am but got me into see a dentist in between their already booked schedule. Once I arrived I was greeted by a very kind receptionist and a clean waiting room. I was taken back by Jose, very nice and diligent tech and then I got to meet my dentist. Like an angel for my teeth. The doctor was friendly, gentle and incredibly knowledgeable. She got me fixed up and helped me find dentist back in phx to continue my care. I am making plans to travel back to Los Angeles to see LA Dental again! Amazing!"

"This is my first time here at LA Dental Clinic and I love how caring, relatable, professional, and knowledgeable Dr. Golara, Sara, Cynthia, and Gloria are. They let me know everything that is being done for my son's teeth. They were patience with him by ensuring that he understands what they are doing, the different instruments being used, how they are doing the x-rays, and etc. The office is very clean and they have parking, which is always a plus. Thank you for your help with my son and getting his perfect smile. The prices are very reasonable and not pressured into anything you do not feel comfortable doing. I highly recommend LA Dental Clinic to everyone."

"Dr. Azy, Jesus and Sara completely changed how I feel about my smile. I used to hide it and now I catch myself smiling more without even thinking. It feels so good to finally love it.
The composite bonding experience felt more like self care than a scary dental visit and that says everything. So grateful I found this place! They really helped me feel like myself again."

"My first visit at Dr. Nasiry was excellent. The staff was welcoming friendly and funny. They eased my nerves. Once I was seated they had music playing which was new but pleasant. The doctor was easy to talk to and she listen to all my concerns. She makes you feel like you are her number one priority. Ive had braces put it and I was terrified but they all helped me get through it. I have a favorite assistant who goes above and beyond to make sure you are ok and getting the best treatedment. This place is great and im glad I made the decision to make them my permanent dental family."

No Insurance?
A dental emergency does not wait for insurance coverage, and treatment should not either. Patients without dental insurance are welcome to enroll in our Membership Plan, which provides set annual pricing for care rather than the waiting periods and exclusions of a traditional insurance plan. The LA Dental Membership Plan is designed to give patients predictable costs and straightforward access to care, including emergency visits. Ask our team about enrollment when you call to schedule your appointment.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
I'm in serious pain right now. Can you actually get me in today?
Dental pain that doesn't ease with over the counter medication is often a sign of infection or nerve involvement that needs prompt evaluation, not home remedies. Call our Wilshire Blvd office at (213) 385-9710 and describe your symptoms so we can assess the urgency accurately. Every emergency call is reviewed as it comes in, and appointments are prioritized based on clinical severity rather than order received. If we cannot see you right away, we will advise you honestly on how to manage the pain safely until your visit.
I'm visiting LA and my tooth broke or my crown came loose. Can you help even though I'm not local?
Traveling patients are common in our practice, particularly given the volume of visitors who come to Los Angeles for work in film and television. A dislodged crown or fractured tooth exposes the underlying dentin, and sometimes the nerve, so it should be addressed within a day or two even if the pain is mild. We can evaluate and stabilize the tooth at your visit and provide a written summary for your dentist at home to continue care. Call ahead with your travel dates so we can plan your appointment accordingly.
Should I go to the ER or call you for a bad toothache?
Hospital emergency rooms are equipped to manage systemic symptoms, such as fever or spreading facial swelling, but they generally cannot treat the tooth itself. If swelling affects your breathing or your ability to swallow, seek emergency medical care first, then follow up with our office. For a toothache, fracture, or lost restoration without those systemic symptoms, call us directly so we can diagnose and treat the underlying cause.
What happens if something goes wrong on a weekend or after hours?
We are not a 24 hour practice, and we believe it is more responsible to state that clearly than to promise availability we cannot provide. If you have a dental emergency outside office hours, call (213) 385-9710 and leave a detailed message describing your symptoms. Our team reviews messages first thing the next business day and prioritizes cases involving pain, swelling, or trauma. If you have facial swelling affecting your breathing or bleeding that will not stop, go to the nearest emergency room without delay.
How do I know if this is actually serious, or if I should just wait it out?
As a general guideline, uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, an injury to the mouth or jaw, and pain severe enough to interfere with daily function all warrant an immediate call. A mild, intermittent ache or a small cosmetic chip can often be scheduled as a standard appointment instead. When in doubt, call and describe your symptoms. We would rather assess the situation directly than have you guess incorrectly on your own.
Do you see emergency patients who have never been to your office before?
Yes. A dental emergency does not require an existing patient relationship, and delaying care to establish one first can allow a treatable problem, such as an abscess, to progress. We conduct a full clinical evaluation at your first visit regardless of your history with us. Prior dental records or recent X-rays are helpful if you have them, but they are not required to be seen. Call (213) 385-9710 and our team will walk you through what to expect.
Is parking near your office a hassle, especially in Koreatown?
This is a practical concern we hear often, since traffic along Wilshire Boulevard can be heavy during the morning and evening commute. Our building includes free underground parking, and our front desk validates your ticket at check in. If the garage is at capacity, metered spaces are available on the side streets off Wilshire. We recommend allowing extra time if your appointment falls between 8 and 9 AM or 5 and 6 PM.
My tooth got knocked out. What do I do before I can get to you?
An avulsed tooth, meaning one fully displaced from its socket, has the best chance of successful reimplantation when treated within 30 to 60 minutes of the injury. Handle the tooth only by the crown, never the root, to avoid damaging the periodontal ligament fibers that allow it to reattach. If you can reposition it in the socket without forcing it, do so. If not, store it in cold milk or your own saliva and come to our office immediately, calling us on your way so we can prepare for your arrival.
I don't have dental insurance. Can I still come in for an emergency?
Yes. Dental insurance is not a requirement for emergency treatment, and we review the estimated cost with you before beginning any procedure. For patients who anticipate needing ongoing care after the emergency is resolved, our LA Dental Membership Plan offers fixed annual pricing on exams, cleanings, and X-rays, with no deductible and no waiting period. Ask our team about enrollment when you call to schedule.
I chipped a veneer or my bonding came loose. Does that really count as an emergency?
A dislodged veneer or bonding is rarely a medical emergency, but it does expose the underlying tooth structure and should be evaluated within a few days to prevent sensitivity or further damage. If you have the fragment, save it, since it can sometimes be reused. Avoid chewing on that side and avoid extreme temperatures until we see you. In most cases, we can rebond or rebuild the restoration in a single appointment, matched to the surrounding shade.
