Ladies, Don’t Forget Your Teeth In Your 50’s And 60’s

“Teeth and gums are vulnerable to wear, and it is during your 50s and 60s that problems often start to show up”, says the head of geriatrics at Cleveland clinic, Robert Palmer. Why is that so? Women in their 50s go through a number of hormonal changes, such as menopause. This is a leading cause… Continue Reading Ladies, Don’t Forget Your Teeth In Your 50’s And 60’s

“Teeth and gums are vulnerable to wear, and it is during your 50s and 60s that problems often start to show up”, says the head of geriatrics at Cleveland clinic, Robert Palmer. Why is that so? Women in their 50s go through a number of hormonal changes, such as menopause. This is a leading cause of gum disease and tooth problems in older women. Added to that, the growing age is a prime cause for the weakening of teeth and gums, and this leads to more complicated problems.,

Why Do Women Forget They Need To Look After Their Teeth?

As women age, it is natural for them to become more conscious about how they look. No wonder, there has been a huge rise in the number of women undergoing cosmetic plastic surgeries to take years off their age, as reported by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. It is the way our society functions and older women are not to blame here, in the midst of the making-the-face-look-good obsession, they forget how their teeth play a vital role in making them look younger. Conversely, in other cases, some older women tend to give up on their looks. This usually happens due to the dropping levels of estrogen, which gradually diminishes the need to look good.

Why Teeth?

Pick up a picture from your past, when you were 20, and look at your teeth. Not only the face, but a set of young-looking teeth help take years off your overall appearance as well. If you are in your 30s, you still have time to form good oral hygiene habits which will certainly pay off in the later years. But if you are in your 50s or 60s, there is still hope for looking younger by going through some simple and painless dental procedures, which can make you look substantially younger without the risks you would have to face with cosmetic plastic surgery.

Going For Botox? Face Lift? Go For A Dental Face Lift Instead!

With your friends going for facelift cosmetic surgeries, it might seem tempting, but have a look at these potential side effects:
  • Your skin can get infected/ it becomes more prone to infections
  • Scars might stay
  • Facial nerve injuries might inhibit motion in certain muscles of your face
  • Chances of permanent numbness in the face
  • Hair loss and pain
Such problems in your later years are not what you want, no way. So, is there a safe alternative to regaining that facial volume?

Dental Face Lift

As you head towards your late 50s or 60s, you might lose some teeth in your mouth, or they might just erode away, taking away the support your cheeks and cheekbone had from your teeth. A dental facelift is a safe alternative in which the dentist makes use of dental veneers, to rebuild and reshape your teeth to give better support to your cheeks. This results in a younger-looking face without any of the side effects. Apart from looking younger, dental facelifts can help you:
  • Regain the perfect ability to bite and chew food that you once had
  • Straighten and align teeth
  • Mend chipped teeth or teeth that have worn off
You can also limit the chances of you getting gum disease and further tooth loss in your older age, just by visiting and consulting a dentist. Cosmetic dental procedures might make you look younger artificially, but a healthy smile will not only make you look young on the outside but on the inside as well. Come and visit our practice for a consultation to find out the best way to take care of your smile!
